About Austrian Roots

Why Austria needs its own guide

Austrian Roots is a small independent project for people tracing a family to Austria. From far away the records look tidy, because the country has one language and clear provinces. Up close they are not: registers divided by faith, access governed by waiting periods, and a state whose shape has changed more than once. We built the site to lay that system out in plain terms and to show the source behind every claim.

How we check things

  1. We begin with city offices, archives, ministries and FamilySearch, and we name them on the page.
  2. Any fact that can change, such as an access rule, a fee or a web address, carries a date.
  3. When we cannot confirm something, we say so and leave it unconfirmed.
  4. Invented examples are marked as invented, so no reader mistakes them for a real family.

Our commitments

  • We will not publish made-up reviews, ratings or testimonials.
  • Payment from a company will not change what we write about records or law.
  • If we get something wrong, the correction will appear on the page.

Where the money comes from

Some of our links earn a commission when a reader buys through them, at no added cost to the reader. MyHeritage is our principal partner. The affiliate disclosure describes the arrangement and lists what stays free of links.

Limits

We are not lawyers, officials or archivists. Our citizenship pages report how official sources describe the rules, and only the authorities can say whether a particular family qualifies.
