Effective 19 October 2026. This privacy policy answers the questions visitors usually ask about their data on Austrian Roots.
Who is behind this site?
Austrian Roots. Privacy questions and requests go to contact@austrianroots.com.
What happens to an email I send?
We store the message and your address so that we can answer you and, if you request it, fix a page. Nothing else is done with it.
What does the site record when I browse?
The company hosting the site logs basic technical details of each request, such as the page asked for, the time and an IP address, to keep the service running and secure. The site has no visitor accounts and takes no payments.
Does the site use cookies?
It runs on WordPress and may set the cookies WordPress needs. Should we add analytics, comments or any other service that relies on cookies, this page will list it, and we will ask for consent first where the law demands it.
What about the companies behind affiliate links?
Some pages carry affiliate links, covered by the affiliate disclosure. After you click one, you are on another company’s site, and its own policy governs any cookies and data it collects. We do not control that and do not receive your personal details from those companies.
Is my information sold or shared?
It is not sold. We do not hand your messages to other companies unless a legal obligation forces us to.
How long is it kept?
Emails stay only as long as they help us reply or record a correction, and are then erased. Server logs follow the hosting company’s own schedule, which is limited.
How can I see or remove my data?
Write to the address above and ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you. Depending on where you live, local data-protection law may give you further rights, among them the right to complain to a supervisory authority.
Who is the site for?
Adults researching family history. We do not knowingly gather information from children.
Will this policy change?
If it does, the effective date at the top will change with it.
