Affiliate Disclosure

This affiliate disclosure answers one question before you click: does this site get paid when you do?

The short answer

Yes, in some places. Certain links lead to products or services that other companies sell. When a reader buys through one, that company may pay us a commission, while the reader pays the usual price. A page that contains such links says so at its foot.

The company we name first

MyHeritage, a seller of family-tree software, record collections and DNA kits, is our principal partner. In any list of options it is named first, because we earn from it and because we think it fits many beginners. Being named first is not a ranking, and we point out when something else answers a question better.

Four things we will not do

  1. Invent a review, a rating or a customer quotation.
  2. Allow a commission to influence what we say about records, rules or law.
  3. Pass off our own downloads as another company’s product.
  4. Describe a rule, a fee or an archive procedure without a source, or without a date where the detail can change.

What never carries affiliate links

Archives, ministries, city offices, FamilySearch and similar public bodies are cited as sources only. None of them carries an affiliate link from us.

Is this advice?

No. This is information only, not legal, financial or professional advice, and it does not stand in for the official pages we cite.
